Another MIND games from Sir Alex..!!

To deflect attention from Manchester United's promising start to the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season, Sir Alex Ferguson has audaciously claimed that there will be six teams competing for this year's title.

Surely Fergie Is Having A Laugh
There aren't too many occasions where the Gaffer has been proven wrong with his predictions, especially with how the league will play out, but this time he looks to be a bit foolish with his statements.

Yes, no Premier League trophy has ever been won in August, but with some of the results from the month, it would take a foolhardy person to honestly think that any team outside of Manchester or South London has a realistic chance of winning it.

Sir Alex predicts Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham to possibly challenge United for the most coveted piece of silverware in England. But, more than likely, it will be another two - possibly three - horse race come May.

Like it or not, City looks to be the main challenger as they have look very decent to start the season, but Chelsea cannot be written off, either.

In an interview with Sky Sports News HD, Ferguson claimed that there will be three teams from the London area and three teams from the northwest that will eventually have their hands on the title.

"I think you could say that five or six teams will be involved. It's a really, really difficult league to win. It's a league that if you look at it, in the south you have the London teams like Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea and then you have ourselves, Manchester City and Liverpool in the north."

In that interview, he also indicated the secret that has made him and Manchester United so successful over the last 25 years, as well.

"You have to try and build teams that will last for a few years. We have done that quite successfully over the years. This is another example of trusting the young players and giving them opportunities."

Having the vision and trusting your players - young or experienced - are the two major components that will separate the six clubs, which should be Manchester United.

Redknapp : Sir Alex is the BEST in Buying Game..!!

Story Image

REDKNAPP has revealed the secret of Sir Alex Ferguson’s ability to rebuild generation after generation of successful Manchester United teams.
Sir Alex Ferguson only does his shopping when the shelves are already full – the shelves of the trophy cabinet that is.
Manchester United are likely to field another fresh-looking side against Tottenham at Old Trafford tonight, as injury problems affect team selection.
But Harry Redknapp does not feel that will make his life any easier as the champions are already much stronger than they were last year.
“It’s the time you buy, when you’re going well,” said Redknapp. “They win the championship last year and he goes out and brings a couple in. Ashley Young is a good signing, a player I tried to sign.
“Yes, they’ve got injuries. They have picked up a couple at centre-half. But he has a fantastic young centre-half in Phil Jones. He has got Chris Smalling who can play there and Jonny Evans.
ì
Can we be fourth? We’re not far away. There’s not a lot in it. We’re very close.
î
Harry Redknapp
“So United would still be my favourites from what I’ve seen.
“I think that United still have the edge on everybody. They are my favourites to win the league again this year definitely.”
They will have to win a three-horse race according to Redknapp, who had extra time to assess his rivals after last Saturday’s start to the campaign was cancelled after the rioting around White Hart Lane.
“In all honesty, you have to fancy United, Chelsea or Man City,” he said. “You can’t see those three not making the Champions League, can you? It would be amazing if they didn’t. I am being realistic, not being a pessimist.
“It’s between ourselves, Arsenal and Liverpool for that other spot. That’s how I see the season. If we can finish in the top three that would be great. We are aiming to be there, but I can’t see them not making it with the players they’ve got.”
That said, Tottenham laid down an impressive marker with the 5-0 drubbing of Hearts in Edinburgh in their only competitive match so far.
True, Hearts were hideously below the par you would expect in the Premier League week in, week out, but they still needed to be taken apart, which Tottenham did relentlessly. Five different scorers have all got their accounts up and running and that is without the anticipated arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Manchester City – although the fact he is not eligible for the next two matches means the deal may drag along.
Lassana Diarra is another loan target to shore up the centre of a midfield which may or may not have Luka Modric, depending on whether or not Chelsea make Spurs an offer they cannot refuse.
For the time being, Tom Huddlestone will fill in with him in place of the impressive but inexperienced Jake Livermore.
“Can we be fourth?” Redknapp said. “We’re not far away. There’s not a lot in it. We’re very close.
“We’ll get one or two players in before the window closes. The chairman is very close to doing a couple of deals .
“You have to keep improving because all the other teams have gone out and improved. Probably only ourselves and Arsenal haven’t done too much.
“If we get one or two in again, we’ll be bang there again for sure.”

FIRST win of the season 2011/12 for Man Utd...!!

English champion Manchester United opened its title defence with a 2-1 win at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday while Chelsea could manage only a draw in new coach Andre Villas-Boas's first Premier League match.
United opened the scoring in the 13th minute, when Wayne Rooney combined well with winger Ashley Young before sending a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner.
The hosts levelled through debutant Shane Long, who made the most of United keeper David De Gea's lack of conviction, before Young masterminded a winner that West Brom defender Steven Reid deflected into his own net in the 81st minute.
United did what none of its main rivals could this weekend after Chelsea drew 0-0 at Stoke City on Sunday and Arsenal and Liverpool also managed only a point apiece in their openers on Saturday.
Alex Ferguson's side struggled away from home last season, picking up just 25 points from a possible 57 on its way to a record 19th title, and started the game in a lively fashion that suggested it was keen to travel better this term.
The Red Devils' main negative from the match was injuries picked up by centre backs Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who Ferguson said were facing six and two weeks on the sidelines respectively.
Those blows came hours after United said fellow defender Rafael would be out of action for 10 weeks after dislocating his shoulder.
Encouraged by the inspirational second-half showing in the 3-2 comeback win over Manchester City in last weekend's Community Shield, Ferguson backed his youngsters to deliver on a bigger platform.
Midfielder Tom Cleverley, 22, and 20-year-old striker Danny Welbeck both started, while new signing Young made his United league debut with a blistering performance down the left wing.
He exchanged passes with Rooney for the opener before bursting into the box nine minutes from time to fire in a cross that bounced off Reid to ensure United took the points.
"He was a threat all the time," manager Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports.
Young's confidence contrasted with goalkeeper De Gea, whose shaky start to his United career continued after his handling of Manchester City's goals last week was widely questioned.
The 20-year-old Spaniard, who arrived at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid for around 18 million pounds ($28.5 million) as a replacement for the retired Edwin van der Sar, should have comfortably saved Long's nonchalant effort in the 37th minute.
The gum-chewing Long, who arrived from Championship (second division) side Reading, drove a shot in low across the goal that De Gea allowed to get past him at the far post.
"David should have done better, I think it was just a bit of concentration there ... welcome to English football," Ferguson said.
Goalkeeping was also an issue for Chelsea on Sunday, as it was held 0-0 at Stoke City thanks to some excellent saves by Stoke's Asmir Begovic.
Following a muted first half, Chelsea picked up the pace after the break with John Obi Mikel, substitute Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou all testing Begovic's reflexes.
Striker Fernando Torres was behind many of the Chelsea moves, dribbling past defenders with a confidence last seen in his best Liverpool days.
"I am only 27, I have not forgotten how to play and how to score and to play well," man-of-the-match Torres told Sky Sports.
"Last season was a season to forget for me ... it's in the past and now I want to look forward."
As well as being denied by Begovic's acrobatics, in particular when he tipped Mikel's long-range volley over the bar and Anelka's curling shot against the woodwork, Chelsea was also frustrated that its appeals for penalties were ignored.
Manchester City hosts Swansea City on Monday, seeking to match United's pace.

Cantona Return to Old Trafford..??!!

ERIC CANTONA returns to Old Trafford on Friday, 14 years after his shock retirement from Manchester United.
Cantona and Sir Alex Ferguson will be in opposing dug-outs for Paul Scholes’ testimonial.
Ferguson will include Scholes in his United team one last time.
Cantona brings with him his New York Cosmos, the most recognisable name of the first incarnation of US soccer, beginning their quest to become part of the second.
Part of that mission involves developing their young players, something that has appealed to Cantona‘s nature.
“At first, it was difficult for Eric to understand what we were doing,” said Cosmos vice-chairman Terry Byrne.
“But after two or three meetings he came to New York and loved the city.
“His biggest passion is developing talented young players. That is his dream and his vision. He has a very clear strategy for what he wants to do with his kids.
“Once we explained what we wanted and showed him a documentary about Cosmos’ history, he stood up and said ’this is a combination between sport and art. I love it’.”
For Friday’s game Cosmos will feature ‘guest‘ professionals, including Fabio Cannavaro, Robbie Keane, Wayne Bridge and Gary Neville – but not David Beckham, whose contract with Los Angeles Galaxy rules out any chance of involvement.

Park a core player for United...!!

Manchester United's Park Ji-sung was once a marketing ploy by the EPL club but has now emerged into one of the team's core players. REUTERS/Nigel Roddis - Manchester United's Park Ji-sung was once a marketing ploy by the EPL club but has now emerged into one of the team's core players. REUTERS/Nigel Roddis | Reuters
Asian's Finest..:p
CHICAGO (AP): To some, Park Ji-sung seemed to be nothing more than a human marketing ploy when he arrived at Manchester United in 2005.
Fans figured the English Premier League team simply wanted to raise its profile and sell more merchandise in Asia, and adding a South Korean player seemed to be the easiest path for the world's most popular club to reach an even broader audience.
So much for that: Park proved he can play.
"At first, some said I was selling t-shirts," Park said during a recent break in Manchester United's U.S. tour stop in Chicago. "But I made (it clear) their thought is wrong. So I'm happy."
The midfielder isn't the flashiest player on the field, but he's usually among the hardest-working. He has earned the trust of United manager Alex Ferguson, who showed his regard for Park by starting him in last season's Champions League final against Barcelona. United lost the game, but it was another sign that Park has become a core player for one of the world's top teams.
And as United's U.S. tour moves to the New York area this week, where the Red Devils will face the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday night, Ferguson has offered Park a new two-year contract.
"His career at United has been nothing but excellent, a tremendous professional," Ferguson said last week. "And I'm sure he'll accept the new offer, and tie himself to the club for the next two years." Park said the deal is "in negotiations" but not finished yet.
"It has to be signed before it's confirmed or said it's done," Park said. "Still, I'm happy they offered to me to stay here. So we'll see."
Park might be counted on more than ever as United prepares to defend its Premier League title.
Veteran Paul Scholes has retired, and while there has been speculation United could try to acquire a new star midfielder - Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder and Arsenal's Samir Nasri have been linked with the team - Ferguson doesn't appear in any hurry to make a big-money midfielder move in the transfer market.
"I think we'll be starting the season with the players I have," Ferguson said. "And I'm satisfied with that."
Park has gained the respect of teammates, including United's up-and-coming young players.
"He's just a workhorse," defender Chris Smalling said. "He runs and runs all day long. And he brings that that quality, he can play on the wing, he can play center midfield. He's been a real credit to the team, and long may that continue."
Park said he was never bothered by the way he was regarded when he first came to the team.
"They could think that, because Asian players, not many play in Europe," Park said. "Maybe that's why people think Asian players are no good. But yeah, I'm happy to prove that Asian players can play as European players."
If Park does extend his stay at United with a new deal, forward Danny Welbeck says it will be a popular move.
"He's definitely one of the more experienced players in the squad," Welbeck said. "We all know the qualities that Ji's got and provides for the team. Everyone here will be delighted that he's got a new deal. What's going on, I'm not too sure. But he's a great player for us."
Even if Park isn't the most vocal leader.
"He's quite quiet, he keeps to himself," Smalling said. "But everybody mixes together, and I think even though we've got so many different nationalities in the squad, everybody's really together.
Even though we don't all come from the same country, it's like one big family."
Park has scored in two of United's three games on its U.S. tour so far, and says he's having fun - even if Saturday's game, a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field, was way too hot for him.
"So far, so good," Park said. "This is my first time on the tour, because I missed last time on the tour with Manchester United. Pretty good facilities, and I'm quite surprised at all the fans. It's impressive for me."

Gary : David have a BIG impact in USA..!!

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes David Beckham has left a lasting legacy in football in the USA.

The former Red Devils defender says the LA Galaxy star, whose contract expires with the MLS club at the end of this season, has influenced youngsters in America to play football.

“David has had a huge impact on American football but he is the sort of character and person that has a massive impact on whatever he does and wherever he goes and I’m sure that there will be lots of long-term benefits as well,” Neville told Goal.com. “That sort of influence he has had will have had a huge affect on the crowds for the MLS games and the young people who will aspire to take up soccer.”

Despite the MLS still not being as popular as the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL in America, Neville believes time will show just how important Beckham is to football in the United States.

“His influence won’t be just felt while he is playing but there it will be felt for many years to come because I am sure they will see that he will have inspired huge numbers of young people to actually take up the sport,” Neville said. “That is some legacy.”

Beckham, who is better known in the United States for his celebrity status alongside wife Victoria than his football skills, dreamed of coming to America early on his career. Unlike several other top players around the world, Beckham entered the league in his prime rather than use the MLS as a good retirement destination.

The England legend signed with the Galaxy on January 11, 2007 for what was originally reported to be a deal worth $250 million (£156m), but it was later revealed that the price was nothing more than an estimate of how much he could make with endorsements over his five-year contract. The actual deal with the club turned out being $32.5m (£20.3m) over the half decade.

“He always mentioned going to America to play before he finished his career and that is something that he [has] gone and done and really relished it,” Neville said. “That’s because he would always want to be successful. He is an incredibly driven person who continued to play for England during the first part of his time over the California. That is a huge achievement.”

Beckham and Neville have a friendship that dates back to the early '90s when both began their rise from United's academy to world-wide stardom.

Neville ended up playing all 19 years of his career with the Red Devils, while Beckham went on to play for Real Madrid before making his way to the MLS. But they have remained friends since, with Neville being the best man at his former team-mate's wedding in 1999 and Beckham making a trip back to Manchester to participate in Neville's testimonial in May.

"I have been in touch to congratulate him and Victoria on their new arrival," said Neville, referring to the couple's fourth child, Harper Seven Beckham, who was born this week.

While Beckham wore a United shirt for perhaps the last time during Neville's testimonial, the 36-year-old will face his former team this month during the World Football Challenge.

With United beginning their North America tour this week with a match against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, Neville looked back at his days travelling with the Premier League champions.

"When we go on tour the things we would send back were presents and things that we would buy that we couldn’t carry back ourselves such as fragile items or pieces of furniture if we were doing things for our homes," Neville said. "The quirkiest thing I sent back home were some Moroccan chairs that are still taking pride of place in the Neville household."

Backing the new boys

One of the longest-serving players in United’s history believes new arrivals David de Gea, Phil Jones and Ashley Young will have the fans’ full backing at Old Trafford.
Legendary left-back Arthur Albiston says the home faithful could play a big part in helping the trio of summer signings adapt to their new surroundings.
Albiston told ManUtd.com: “Our supporters are renowned for giving people time. Of course, there’s nothing they like more than watching young players come through the United ranks into the first team but they’ll have similar feelings about Jones and de Gea, given they’re only 19 and 20.
“The fans at Old Trafford have loads of patience with new players coming to the club, especially young ones, and they’ll get behind them.
“Everyone’s going to make the odd mistake but our fans are very forgiving. I’m sure Peter Schmeichel would hold his hand up to one or two mistakes in his first season. That’s something that goes with the territory.
“The crowd will give de Gea, Jones and Young every backing and if the new boys perform as well as Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling did in their first season, I’m sure the supporters and the manager will all be delighted.”
Albiston acknowledges there are parallels between de Gea and the goalkeeper he made most of his 485 United appearances in front of, Gary Bailey. Bailey was also just out of his teens when he made his debut for the Reds in 1978 and, like de Gea, was effectively replacing a long-term number one at Old Trafford – in his case, 1968 European Cup hero and 1977 FA Cup winner Alex Stepney.
“De Gea’s in a very similar situation to Gary Bailey, who got into our side at a very young age and went on to be a fantastic servant for United,” recalled Albiston.
“I don’t know what de Gea is like confidence-wise or character-wise. But Bailey had a strong personality, with bags of confidence. And although he was thrown in at the deep end, he wasn’t shy about giving orders to experienced international defenders.
“That’s something you’ve got to do as a goalkeeper and some people find it difficult. But all players have to speak on the pitch and a goalkeeper has to be especially vociferous and organise his defence.
"De Gea has proved he can play in front of big crowds – he just needs to get to know the lads, especially the defenders. Like Bailey, Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, he musn’t be shy in telling them what to do.”
